A crash in Massachusetts involving a school bus left several high school students shaken and others injured on April 6. The accident occurred in Sudbury at about 4 p.m. on Concord road when the bus and a Cadillac collided head-on, and nine students were injured along with the bus driver and the motorist in the other vehicle.

Massachusetts residents may be interested to learn that for a period of 13 years, the rate of fatalities from car crashes steadily decreased in the U.S. However, when compared to 19 other developed countries, the U.S. still had a significantly higher rate of fatalities from motor vehicle accidents and a lower average reduction over the same period of time.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on May 30, an accident in Massachusetts left one pedestrian injured and another dead. The pedestrians, a couple, were walking together on the sidewalk when a driver lost control of a 2010 Lexus. The Lexus then struck a 2011 Toyota Corolla that hit the couple. It went on to hit two other cars.

On June 25, Massachusetts authorities reported that a car accident left five individuals, including a state police trooper, with injuries. Other people were injured in the crash which continues to be under investigation.

The Massachusetts State Police has reported that a 34-year-old woman was killed and four others suffered injuries during the early morning hours of June 5 when two SUVs collided in Middlesex County. The accident took place on Route 3, which is also known as the Northwest Expressway, in Chelmsford at approximately 1:30 a.m. Route 3 was closed to traffic for more than four hours in the aftermath of the crash as paramedics tended to the injured and accident investigators went about their duties.

When school is out for summer in Massachusetts, teenagers have more free time, and that means more time driving vehicles. The American Automobile Association labels the summer season following Memorial Day as the 100 deadliest days. When AAA studied data collected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the past several years, the organization found that approximately 1,000 people died in car crashes involving teenage drivers during this time period around the country.

Massachusetts music fans may be shocked to learn that Scottish DJ Calvin Harris was involved in a serious car crash in Los Angeles May 20. Fortunately, the 32-year-old suffered only minor injuries from the accident.

Holyoke, Massachusetts motorists should be aware that the city is participating in a statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign from May 2 through May 23. During this period, there will be increased enforcement of the state’s seat belt law in an effort to increase safety awareness. The state requires that all occupants of private passenger vehicles use a seat belt.

A 17-year-old boy in Massachusetts died in a car accident on April 30. The fatal crash took place in Adams and involved two vehicles. Police responded to the scene of the accident near the intersection of Staples Street and North Summer Street at around 5:15 p.m.
