Accident on notorious Massachusetts highway injures 4
A notorious stretch of Massachusetts highway was the scene of another serious traffic accident on Aug. 4. A 45-year-old woman was left fighting for her life when the SUV she was traveling in on Interstate 495 in Middlesex County was struck by a semi-tractor trailer. The driver of the SUV and two children were also injured in the crash, which took place in Littleton at about 3:00 p.m. According to a Massachusetts State Police report, the Ford Expedition SUV was proceeding southbound in the left lane of Interstate 495 when it was struck on the rear passenger side by a Freightliner tractor-trailer near Exit 31. The semi is said to have struck the SUV as it moved from the center lane to the left lane. The force of the collision caused the 53-year-old man behind the wheel of the SUV to lose control of his vehicle, which rolled onto its side before coming to a rest on the median. A helicopter was brought in to transport the badly injured Billerica woman to a trauma center in Boston. Her injuries were described as life threatening. The SUVs driver and its two child passengers suffered less serious injuries, and they were taken to a hospital in Worcester for treatment. Interstate 495 is known as an accident hotspot, and the latest collision comes barely a month after a man was killed in a four-vehicle crash on the same stretch of road. Motorists are expected to remain vigilant at all times, and this is particularly true when they are behind the wheels of cumbersome and heavy commercial vehicles. When reckless behavior others to be harmed, experienced personal injury attorneys may seek compensation for accident victims by filing lawsuits against the negligent drivers responsible.
