Fatal Massachusetts accident involves FedEx truck driver

A 90-year-old woman died on June 12 after a FedEx truck driven by a 24-year-old man struck her on a Somerville street. The woman was walking in the area of Holland and Dover Streets when the accident occurred. Once first responders arrived on the accident scene around 10:20 a.m., the woman was moved to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. Afterward, she succumbed to her injuries. The Somerville Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police are working together to try to determine how the accident occurred, and accident reconstruction is part of the investigation. The District Attorney’s Office said that it was too early in the investigation to say if charges would be filed against the FedEx truck driver. According to a representative of the company, safety is a top priority at FedEx, and the police have their company’s cooperation in this matter. Since the accident is still under investigation, the FedEx Ground employee involved cannot drive for the company for a while. The company has publicly expressed condolences to the deceased woman’s family. When commercial truck accidents such as this occur, the family of the deceased might consider discussing the case with a personal injury attorney. The loss of a loved one and their companionship could be detrimental to remaining family members, and they may decide to file a wrongful death claim. Whether or not criminal charges are filed against the at-fault driver, compensation may be due to the family through civil court proceedings. The attorney could negotiate with the company’s insurance provider for an adequate settlement.
