Commercial landscaping vehicle causes fatal accident

Walking is an activity that cannot be avoided. Health conscious people in Massachusetts prefer to walk every day, while some others may prefer to walk short distances to avoid congested roads and parking woes. However, safety of people walking on roads is one of the main concerns in the state. Many families are worried until their children return back home from school or outdoor activities, as traffic accidents are on the rise in the state. Officials and other organizations undertake programs to provide awareness of road safety. Drivers are advised to watch out for people walking near roads and pedestrians are instructed to use crosswalks. Using crosswalks, however, does not necessarily prevent accidents entirely. Recently a person who was crossing in a crosswalk was struck by a commercial landscaping truck. The victim was transported to a hospital, but passed away due to nature of his injuries.Witnesses made calls to 911 to report the fatal accident. They informed the police that a white box truck fled the scene after hitting a person. Police and fire officials reached the scene in response to the call. After some time, firefighters noticed a white truck travelling the wrong way. Officers reached the place after receiving information of the truck’s whereabouts. The truck was stopped by an officer. Officials observed that the truck’s hood and light assembly was damaged. The truck driver was charged with motor vehicle homicide as a result of OUI and leaving the scene of an accident after causing a death. He was placed under arrest and arraigned in Attleboro District Court. It was stated that the bail for the driver is set at $25,000. Police detectives along with Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are involved in the investigation of the accident.Death of a loved one is traumatic for those who are left behind. Knowledge of the fact that the accident could have been avoided can only add to the pain of the family. The loss of a loved one cannot be compensated, but the family can take action against the wrongdoer. The family may file a wrongful death lawsuit to hold the negligent driver liable for his or her actions.
