Police investigate 4-vehicle accident that injured 2

Authorities in Massachusetts believe that a driver committed a traffic violation which led to a multi-vehicle accident in Longmeadow on August 20. The crash injured two drivers, and one of them suffered serious injuries. The crash happened at 1:00 p.m. at Laurel Street’s intersection with Bliss Road and involved four vehicles. Those injured are residents of Springfield and East Longmeadow, and both were taken to Baystate Medical Center. The two other drivers, along with three passengers, were treated for minor injuries by EMS at the scene, but they all refused further medical attention. State Police reported that the preliminary investigation indicated that one of the four drivers ran a red light and its Accident Reconstruction Team would aid in the investigation. Traffic was detoured at the intersection for almost two and a half hours after the accident.Investigations and accident reports can be especially important in Massachusetts because injured plaintiffs who are found partly responsible for a crash can receive less compensation from a responsible driver or the driver’s insurance company when seeking restitution via civil action. Crash reconstructions, medical records, photos of the crash site, witness statements and police reports can all be valuable to a plaintiff’s attorney when building a case. A personal injury lawyer might be able to compile relevant evidence and help one gain a fair settlement after a car accident.A negligent driver is one who engages in irresponsible behavior when driving and does not provide others with the proper care that is required when operating a vehicle. Drivers may be negligent and responsible for a wreck when they are driving drunk, texting and driving, speeding, not obeying traffic signals or paying attention to something other than the road.
