Rollover 2 Fatalities

A rollover accident involving a van on I-495 claimed the lives of two people and injured four others. The accident happened around 6:55 a.m. in Merrimac, Massachusetts. State Police responded to reports of the accident and requested that multiple ambulances be sent to the scene. Six men were inside of the van when it rolled over. One was pronounced dead at the scene and another was pronounced dead at the hospital where he had been taken for treatment. The remaining four men all suffered injuries. According to the police, the van’s driver collided with the median, causing the van to roll. The van reportedly had ladders, tools, nails and other construction equipment, which all spewed out across the interstate. Two of northbound lanes on the interstate were closed for about two hours while law enforcement officers completed their investigation.

The man who died at the scene of the accident was reportedly ejected during the accident. The four who were injured were all transported to the hospital with injuries that were classified as serious. In an accident where a driver’s negligence was a primary factor, the injured passengers and the families of those who were killed may all have grounds to file personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits against the at-fault motorist. If the driver was working at the time of the crash, the passengers might also be able to name the driver’s employer as a defendant to their lawsuits through a legal theory called respondeat superior. A personal injury attorney may make the determination of all of the appropriate defendants to name in a lawsuit in order to maximize the recovery.
