Massachusetts tractor-trailer accident injures 1
Local law enforcement officials reported an accident involving a semi-truck and a sport-utility vehicle that happened in Mansfield around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 22 injured the driver of the SUV. An ambulance transported the SUV driver to a hospital in Providence. The driver of the semitrailer was not harmed.According to police, the accident occurred at the intersection of Forbes Boulevard and West Street, and the drivers were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred. The southbound lane of Forbes Boulevard was closed for about an hour. Both vehicles were damaged, and firefighters were on hand to clean spilled transmission fluid, engine oil and anti-freeze from the roadway. Employees from the Mansfield Department of Public Works Highway Division were also on hand to remove pieces of the wreckage from the scene. High medical bills alone could motivate a person who was injured in an auto accident to retain a personal injury attorney to bring a claim against another driver suspected of having been at-fault. Damages may be sought for economic losses that stemmed from broken bones, back injuries, brain and spinal cord injuries, internal bleeding and other types of physical harm. After accidents take place that involve tractor-trailers, investigations could determine whether or not the truck drivers were obeying federal guidelines that govern their work. Failing to obey trucking laws could be used as evidence of driver negligence in personal injury suits. Any driver named as the defendant in such litigation may be found liable if he or she engaged in negligent behavior that is shown to have caused the accident in question. Instances of driver negligence include drunk or fatigued driving as well as failing to obey traffic laws.
