Crash injures 5 teens, knocks out power in 2 towns
Five Massachusetts teens were injured in an accident in Ashland when their vehicle hit multiple poles at around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 25. The crash occurred on East Union Street near Ashland High School, and two of the teens currently attend this school while the other three previously attended. The teens were in a Kia that landed in swampy area after the crash, and from Framingham and Ashland firefighters needed to remove two of the teens from the vehicle. The authorities do not yet know what caused the accident that is still under investigation, and power was out in parts of Framingham and Ashland for more than 90 minutes after the crash. Two girls and three boys were in the Kia, and two people in the vehicle were taken to Mass Memorial by helicopter in Worcester while the other three went to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. Witnesses thought that some of the teens suffered head and pelvic injuries, and one of the teens suffered serious injuries that require surgery. One of the girls in the Kia was treated and released from the hospital on the same day the crash occurred. When a crash involving a single vehicle takes place, the authorities typically try to find out what the driver was doing when the crash occurred. An accident like this one could be ruled as the driver’s fault if he or she was speeding, texting and driving or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When accidents happen late at night, drowsy driving could also play a role. If a wreck is caused by a driver’s negligent behavior, then those who suffered injuries in the crash might wish to seek compensation by filing a personal injury claim in civil court. This could help a victim pay for medical bills related to the accident.
