3-vehicle accident leaves 5 injured in Massachusetts
An accident involving three vehicles occurred in New Salem on Sept. 22, officials stated. Multiple people suffered injuries on account of the wreck, which transpired on Route 202 at approximately 1:25 p.m. That is when a pickup truck driven by a 49-year-old man struck the back side of one vehicle and collided head-on with another vehicle, whose driver was a 19-year-old man, according to the Massachusetts State Police. The 19-year-old man suffered serious head and neck injuries, reportedly. Emergency crews transported him via air to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, where officials listed him in critical condition. Three passengers in the 19-year-old man’s vehicle also suffered injuries as a result of the crash. Emergency crews took them and the 49-year-old pickup truck driver to Athol Memorial Hospital for treatment. The driver of the third vehicle involved in the wreck, a 49-year-old Orange man, did not report suffering any injuries. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the event, seeking to reconstruct the accident, reportedly. It was not clear immediately following the incident whether police intended to file any criminal charges in connection with the wreck. The results of any investigation in this case may be critically important to the people who suffered injuries as a result of the wreck. For, if investigators were to conclude that the accident was caused by reckless or negligent driving, such as driving under the influence or excessive speeding, then the at-fault driver may be held accountable not just criminally but also in civil court. When car accidents occur, victims may retain a personal injury lawyer and file suit against the parties whose actionable behavior contributed to the accident. Claimants in a successful lawsuit may receive financial compensation for hospital bills, medical expenses and other economic damages associated with their injuries.
