1 killed in multiple-vehicle accident in Massachusetts
One person was killed in a multiple-vehicle accident in Stoughton on Nov. 9. The victim, who was ejected from a vehicle that had crashed, was hit by six more vehicles. The accident took place on Route 24 near Exit 20 and caused the closure of the northbound side of the road at the Stoughton-Avon line for several hours. According to the Massachusetts State Police, they responded to a report that a person had been hit at 3:11 a.m. Police say that a 1999 Acura, driven by a 20-year-old Brockton man, traveling on the northbound side of Route 24, crashed due to unknown reasons and the passenger, a 21-year-old Brockton man, was ejected and killed. The driver, who was injured in the crash, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Another motorist, a 28-year-old Roslindale man who was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion, was also injured in the auto accident and taken to the same hospital. Police charged the driver of the Acura with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and marked lanes violation. The incident continues to be under investigation. The surviving family members of a person who has been killed in a motor vehicle accident caused by the negligence of another driver will often face severe and immediate consequences in addition to grieving over the sudden loss of a loved one. In addition to funeral and burial expenses, they may have lost the contributions to the household finances that the decedent was making. The survivors thus may want to speak to an attorney about the advisability of filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault motorist. An attorney can explain the procedure as well as the types of damages that can be sought in such an action.
