Woman stuck and killed while walking to Mass
A Massachusetts woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck as she attempted to cross the street Sept. 24. Reports say that she had been on her way to daily Mass when the accident occurred. Dedham police arrived at High Street near Linden Place around 7 a.m. and found the 70-year-old woman lying in the St. Mary of the Assumption Church parking lot. Emergency workers transported her to Norwood Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The driver who struck the woman is a 25-year-old Boston man. He pulled over and called 911. According to police, he was taken to a local hospital after the accident because he was “emotionally distressed.” Authorities believe solar glare may have played a part in the incident, and the man has not yet been charged with any traffic violations. The Dedham police chief said the incident appears to be a “tragic accident.” The death of a loved one due to a traffic accident is a traumatic event for the family members left behind. Not only are they grieving the loss of the victim’s love and companionship, they may be facing steep medical and funeral expenses and the loss of present and future income. In a fatal car accident, an attorney could work to prove that negligence or distraction on the part of a driver caused the death of a victim. Legal counsel could build a case based on evidence, police reports, medical records, accident reconstruction and witness testimony. Even if the police choose not to charge a driver involved in a fatal crash, evidence may still warrant a wrongful death lawsuit filed by a victim’s family.
