Multi-vehicle accident injures 9
Nine people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Massachusetts on Aug. 10. Charges have not yet been filed, but both Leominster and Lancaster police are investigating the accident. The 26-year-old driver, a resident of Leominster, allegedly stole a pocketbook at a local store in Lancaster. Police followed him in a high-speed chase to the city limits, and Leominster police picked it up after they spotted the man reportedly driving against traffic at a high speed. According to police records, the man was driving a Toyota on Lancaster when he hit a Hyundai in the rear at about 4:30 p.m. The impact forced the Hyundai to hit a Honda traveling in the other direction. A Chrysler behind the Honda, in an attempt to avoid crashing, hit a wall. The Toyota overturned multiple times, and the driver was ejected from his vehicle, police said. According to a Leominster police representative, eight individuals were injured and taken to local hospitals, and five had what are described as serious injuries. The Toyota driver was transported to a Worcester medical center with head injuries. A driver who operates his or her motor vehicle in a reckless way and injures other motorists may be liable for the damages. The motorists injured by the negligent driver may experience long medical stays and rehabilitative efforts as well as a change in their quality of life and time lost from work. Paying medical bills and household expenses or replacing damaged property may be difficult. In a similar case, an attorney may review car accident and hospital records as well as medical and police records to determine negligence and to understand the way the injured individual’s life has been affected. The attorney may assist the individual to file a personal injury suit to recover compensatory damages.Source: The Boston Globe, “Nine hurt in four-car Leominster crash,” Kiera Blessing, Aug. 11, 2014 Source: Sentinel And Enterprise, “Police: Man who caused crash still in hospital“, Katina Caraganis, August 12, 2014
